iPhone 4S New Antenna Might Infringe Samsung’s Patents

An old lad of ours, the expert who pointed out the “antennegate” controversy of the iPhone 4 has made another prediction regarding the new model yet to come. He thinks that problems related to patent infringement will be faced by Apple.

According to an expert the new wireless technology of Apple will be able to overcome the problems that caused trouble with iPhone 4 but it is not confirmatory if Apple has been granted permission to use it.

Professor Pedersen and his colleagues at Aalborg University are of the opinion that Apple is bound to run into issues of legal importance regarding the patents that were sold to the Samsung in the year 2007 by the Professor. The report that came from these people also indicates that Samsung has not agreed to use these patents in conjunction with the Apple.

The copyrights are related to technology that is linked to the use of multiple antennas. Two important issues are related to the selection of the antenna in the multiple antenna system and the apparatus.

For instance, one feature in these patents considers a method which selects the antenna on the basis of the mode in which the picture is portrait or landscape. It is expected that Apple might have added this feature to its own system. Here are a few lines from Apple’s press release after the launch of iPhone 4S:

“Improving on the innovative stainless steel external, dual-antenna design of iPhone 4, iPhone 4S is the first phone to intelligently switch between two antennas to send and receive.”

It truly is possible that there might be no such problem for Apple because we do not know precisely the details of the antenna system of the new iPhone4S.

There has definitely been a long drawn-out war between Apple and Samsung regarding the legalities of their tablets and smartphones. There is a great possibility of a compromise between the companies if the antenna systems really do infringe. Samsung is expected to use them with the Apple in litigation.
